The Australian Trellis Door Company™ (ATDC™) supplies and installs economical, retractable steel trellis security doors and concertina security barriers to secure most commercial, industrial, retail and domestic applications.
ATDC’s Economical, Retractable Steel Trellis Security Doors
Invisibility and Security
These folding security doors slide open to be invisible when not in use, and when closed (expanded) provide formidable security against intruders. These security doors are available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
Types of Expanding Security Doors
There are three main types of expanding security door/barrier supplied by ATDC.
Top-Hung Heavy-Duty Retractable Security Gate
The first is a top-hung heavy-duty retractable security gate which runs in a top track, with a range of options for the bottom, from a fixed or removable bottom track to patio bolt locking with no bottom track at all. These folding security gates can operate in a straight line or a curved configuration. They are fixed at the sides, and can lock either at the side or in the centre. They are popular with retail tenants on street-fronts, clubs, pubs, commercial buildings, government and educational facilities, as well as for doorways on residential dwellings.
Double Diamond Sliding Trellis Door
The second type of concertina security gate is the double diamond sliding trellis door which operates without a top track and requires side fixing points. These folding security gates fold sideways and occupy minimal side room, and they are easily hinged. The narrow gaps between the steel mesh in these trellis doors prevent the public from putting their hands through them. This same trellis door is also useful on fire egress applications through the use of a lever handle or snib-turn-locks on the internal.
Mobile Trackless Barrier
The third type is the mobile trackless barrier. These trellis security grilles mounted on mobile wheel bases provide flexibility, allowing the closing off of openings which are difficult to secure. They are self supporting, can be used with the absence of a super structure with no fixing points or supports, and can accommodate angled lines. They can span an unlimited width at any angle, without the need for any mullions. Being completely mobile and trackless, these systems could be stored off premises.
Applications in the Mining Industry
Trellis doors have many applications for the mining industry. Top-hung folding security grilles have been used to secure doorways to demountable residential dwellings within mining camps. Invisible by day and formidable by night, residents can feel secure that their belongings are adequately protected behind strong, high-quality steel security doors. Ornately designed and finished with a high-quality powder coat, these doors are attractive in a domestic setting. The fact that they can be slid open to the side when not required avoids the feeling for residents of “living behind bars”.
Security Solutions for Camps and Recreational Areas
These same retractable security grilles are used to secure both offices as well as recreational buildings within the camps. When installed on the outside, their strength and versatility ensures that no unwanted intruders will be able to gain access to the property when closed. These security grilles recently installed at the Mandaroo Mining Facility in WA, which provides housing for up to 5,000 miners. While being a “dry camp”, the facility operators have created a recreational building, designed to be home away from home, where the miners can consume alcohol and engage in other forms of entertainment such as television and movies. Trellis security doors were installed inside the recreational building between the pub area and the television room, creating an easily operable closure to segregate the two areas. Trellis security gates were also installed in the same building between the pub area and the games room so that residents could continue to play games even after drinking hours, when restriction of access to the pub was required.
Safety in Underground Mining Operations
These top-hung security doors were recently supplied to the New Gold’s Peak Gold Mine at Cobar, for the use in one of their man-riding cages, typically used for hoisting materials or people underground. There are two doors on each cage. One door is fixed and the other is a sliding door i.e. a trellis security door. When the trellis door is fully slid open, the other door can be opened outwards. These concertina security doors allow safe interlocking of cage doors during travelling.
Double Diamond Trellis Security Grilles
ATDC’s double diamond trellis security grilles are being increasingly used on mines to protect the electrical services and restrict tampering with power boards, while still maintaining airflow and see through visibility when the trellis door is closed and locked.
Securing High-Pressure Water Valves
They are also used to restrict public access to high pressure water valves and water hydrants in narrow corridors, which feed water into their fire sprinkler systems. These trellis security gates fold sideways and occupy minimal side room, and they easily hinged, providing an advantage over conventional gates which take up much more space. The narrow gaps between the steel mesh in these trellis doors prevent the public from putting their hands through to reach the water valves and services. This same concertina security door is also useful on fire egress applications; the use of a lever handle or snib-turn-locks on the internal is protected against tampering from the external by the closely spaced trellis door mesh. The double diamond security doors are constructed from steel, are galvanized against corrosion and powder coated in a gloss enamel finish giving the doors a very modern and professional look.
Mobile Trackless Barriers for Dangerous Machinery
The Mobile Trackless concertina security barriers are used by mines to provide a protective barrier for dangerous machinery in mining and manufacturing environments. They are used to restrict access to certain dangerous areas of the mine or production facility, while machines are in operation which could cause injury to passers by.
Restricting Access in Loading Docks and Warehouses
These retractable security barriers are also used to secure mines’ loading docks and warehouse roller door entries, preventing unauthorised access. Furthermore, they assist miners in providing safe environments on sites near to pedestrian traffic which have to be kept safely away from production. The systems are secured on each end by a slam-lock facility which locks the barrier to a side fixing point. If no suitable side-fixing point exists then one can use ATDC’s removable lockable post.
