BONDED WAREHOUSING DEMANDS EXPANDABLE FENCING

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has experienced a significant increase in demand for its cutting-edge expandable fencing, particularly for securing bonded warehouse facilities across Australia.

Rising Demand for ATDC’s Expandable Fencing in Bonded Warehouses

Understanding Bonded Warehouses

A bonded warehouse, or customs warehouse, is a highly secured facility closely monitored by Australian customs authorities. It serves as a storage space for dutiable imported goods that are awaiting re-export, release, or assessment and payment of duties and taxes. These goods can undergo various processes, such as cleaning, sorting, or repacking, as long as these processes do not equate to manufacturing. Businesses may re-export the goods without paying duty or withdraw them for local consumption upon paying the applicable duty.

One of the key benefits of using bonded warehouses is the flexibility they offer. Businesses can quickly move imported shipments from the wharf for short-term storage, unpacking, and deconsolidation. This avoids the high storage charges that would otherwise be incurred if shipments were left indefinitely at the arrival port or air terminal.

Security and ATDC’s Expandable Fencing

Security is paramount in bonded warehouses. The warehouse licence holder is responsible for the safe custody and accounting of the goods, under the supervision of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. Traditionally, these facilities have been secured with 24-hour security personnel, CCTV cameras, and strict inventory control systems. However, there has been a recent increase in demand for ATDC’s expandable fencing to enhance security further. This fencing allows bonded warehouses to secure loading dock entries and the perimeter of the facility while keeping other entry doors unlocked and open.

Features of ATDC’s Expandable Fencing

ATDC’s expandable fencing is trackless and highly adaptable, ensuring it does not interfere with the controlled movement of freight trucks or forklifts. The fencing is available in standard heights of either 2020mm or 2520mm and is made from high-tensile steel sections with multi-point locking options. The fencing operates on heavy-duty 75mm non-marking rubber wheels, making it easy to maneuver, and it complies with relevant OH&S legislation and Australian Standards for Temporary Fencing and Hoarding. Additionally, it meets the deeming provisions of the BCA for emergency egress, where required.

Purchase and Rental Options

ATDC’s expandable fencing is available for outright purchase or for hire on a short or long-term basis. The fencing is sold in major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and Canberra, as well as in regional areas including Newcastle, Geelong, Sunshine Coast, Darwin, Hobart, and Townsville. The product range is also exported to regions across South East Asia, the Asia Pacific, and the Pacific Islands.

EXPANDING BARRICADES FOR IKEA

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) is pleased to announce the installation of its expanding barricades for Ikea’s Richmond outlet in Melbourne.

ATDC Expanding Barricades Installed at Ikea Richmond

About Ikea
Ikea is a multinational group and is the world’s largest furniture retailer, with over 400 stores in 49 countries and a sales turnover in excess of 36 billion euros per annum. Ikea sells furniture, home accessories, and kitchen appliances. It was founded in Sweden but is headquartered in the Netherlands.

Barricade Installation Details
The expanding barricades installed at Ikea’s Richmond store are mobile and trackless and have been configured in the most space-efficient way to prevent access to the store by sealing off entry via the escalators in the shopping centre. The barricades are generally a very effective access control measure and are often utilised in shopping centres, public and government buildings, and entertainment venues for this reason. Being trackless and portable, the expanding barricades require no overhead support structure, making them very easy and cost-effective to install since no permanent overhead structural bulkheads are required.

Customisable Heights and Configurations
The barricades installed at Ikea Richmond are at a standard height of 2020mm. A standard height of 2520mm is also available, and non-standard heights are also available at a premium. The width of these expanding barricades is unlimited due to their unique semi-modular design. No matter how wide the span, ATDC always assembles the barricades in manageable sections which are easy and safe to operate. This is achieved by utilising intermediate locking mechanisms to separate the barrier into sections.

Durable and Secure

Fabricated from hardened precision-engineered steel sections and with numerous locking options available, these expanding barricades are formidable and secure yet are lightweight to operate, running on a series of heavy-duty 75mm bottom thermoplastic rubber non-marking castors. Both steel and aluminium expanding barricades are available depending on the application, with the latter more suitable for installation in a highly corrosive marine environment.

Safety Standards and Applications

OH+S tested for workplace safety and with a comprehensive and independent WHS Risk Assessment, ATDC’s expanding barricades are leaders in the temporary barrier field and are also independently tested for the rigorous dynamic impact and simulated climbing requirements under the Australian Standard AS 4687-2007 Temporary Fencing and Hoardings. Further testing has been successfully completed for emergency egress under the Building Code of Australia (BCA) in applications where this is required.

Applications and Availability

Ideal applications for ATDC’s expanding barricades are to achieve temporary lockup for pop-up stores, kiosks, and other temporary tenancies; access control for shopping centres and government and public buildings (such as railway stations and passenger terminals for instance at airports, ferry stations); Worksafe applications such as construction sites; events; entertainment venues; securing factory warehouses and loading docks. Also very effective as a loss prevention tool against theft of merchandise. ATDC’s expanding barricades are also available for hire in instances where an outright purchase is either unsuitable or beyond one’s capex budget.

EXPANDABLE SAFETY BARRIERS SOLVE SECURITY ISSUE FOR WESTFIELD CENTRE

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has solved a previously  problematic security issue for Australia’s leading shopping centre group and potentially for all other shopping centres (and similar high-volume public entry points to buildings) across the nation.

ATDC Goes Above and Beyond to Mitigate Security Problems

Westfield S04-1

A rise in the number of break and enters through the main entry doors into shopping centres in Australia has become a burning issue in recent times. This problem is further complicated by the fact that shopping centre entry doors normally fall within the restrictive deemed to satisfy provisions of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and its emergency egress requirements. Hence the difficulty of providing effective security screening does not fall foul of this quite onerous legislation.

The Client: Westfield Doncaster

Westfield Doncaster in Melbourne have recently successfully trialled the installation of ATDC’s expandable safety barriers within the airlocks at the entrance to its main entrance in an effort to deter further break-ins to its shopping centre.

Compliance with BCA

The expandable safety barriers installed at Doncaster comply with the BCA’s deemed to satisfy provisions in all relevant respects namely:

i) the barrier has a height not less than 1980mm;

ii) the barrier does not diminish the existing unobstructed egress width of exits and paths of travel to exits within the shopping centre;

iii) the barrier can slide open as well as swing open;

iv) numerous provisions relating to doorways serving as a  required exit or forming part of a required exit are not applicable since the barrier is instead a door in a path of travel to a required exit

v) it is readily openable without a key from the inside by a single downward action on a lever positioned approximately 1m from the floor; and

vi) the handle is of a type that the hand of a person who cannot grip won’t slip; and the handle has clearance from the back plate of between 35mm and 45mm

ATDC has received an independent certification of compliance-For further information on ATDC’s BCA compliance.

Our Products

ATDC manufactures a wide range of expandable safety barriers in both steel and aluminium depending on the particular application. These barriers are portable, trackless, lockable and free standing, and are available in either a white or black powder coated finish.

The barriers comply with existing OH+S legislation for workplace safety and in certain instances, they comply with the Australian Standards for Temporary Fencing and Hoarding including dynamic impact, foothold and simulated climbing tests.

Applications for Our Products

Suitable applications for ATDC’s expandable safety barriers include achieving temporary security for pop-up stores, kiosks and other temporary retail tenancies, access control for shopping centres and public buildings (such as railway stations and passenger terminals for instance at airports, ferry stations, bus terminals), Worksafe applications such as construction sites, sports stadiums, public events, entertainment venues, securing of warehouses and loading docks.

High Profile Project at Singapore’s Changi International Airport

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has recently participated in a high profile project at Singapore’s Changi Airport newest terminal, Terminal 4 (T4).See images at www.trellisdoors.com.au/

Working closely with procurement specialist JEB Asia,ATDC has supplied its unique security grilles to eight tenancies at T4’s Heritage Zone, which showcases Singapore’s local culture and flavour to international passengers. The Heritage Zone in the transit area gives a glimpse into the evolution of shophouse architecture from the 1880s to the 1950s. Part of the job description included installing security grilles that would  complement the  traditional  façade of the pre-war shop houses built before the Second World War-below the shop houses were the retail shops whilst the second and third stories are residential units. There are preserved shop houses still in existence and they are  under heritage conservation in Singapore’s Katong and Chinatown areas. A further requirement was that the security grilles were to occupy as minimal an amount of storage space as was physically possible when unlocked and opened.

With the above objectives in mind,Changi Airport specified ATDC’’s S07-2- side- by -side retractable security grilles which are among the most space efficient commercial door systems currently available on the world market.By installing the top tracks of these security grilles in a parallel tandem top track configuration,ATDC was able to offer a lock up solution to its client which  occupied a mere  8% of the daylight opening spans of these tenancies.Furthermore, through the use of its seamless up/down locking mechanisms ATDC was able to provide  a lock up solution over considerably wide spans without the need for any cumbersome removeable mullions and without the need for any floor tracking to contain these doors.A further requirement was that the locking mechanisms on the security grilles had to be keyable to the specific master keying system at Changi Airport. For further information on ATDC’’s S07-2 security grilles visit ATDC’s website at www.trellisdoors.com.au/product/commercial-security/security-screens-and-screen-doors/scissor-doors-s07-2

A special precious silver pearl powdercoated finish is applied to blend in with the general finishes of the immediate surroundings of the Heritage Zone. Standard ATDC stock finishes include pearl white or satin black although any Dulux powdercoat finish can be achieved to match any individual colour scheme.

The security grilles we are all customer designed and fabricated  to specific sizes from dimensions that were  detailed on architectural and engineering drawings and they were then  attached  to  structural support frames designed in advance by JEB Asia in conjunction with ATDC.The installation was successfully completed and Changi Airport are a very satisfied customer.

ATDC sells its security grilles in Sydney,Melbourne,Brisbane,Adelaide,Perth and Canberra as well as in all regional areas across Australia including Townsville,Darwin,Hobart,Newcastle and Geelong.ATDC also has a thriving export business with its security grilles now being sold throughout South East Asia and the Asia Pacific region  (including Vietnam,Hong Kong,Malaysia and Indonesia) ,as well as to the UAE,New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. For examples of other international projects which ATDC has participated in please visit ATDC’’s website at www.trellisdoors.com.au/export/singapore or see our article at www.trellisdoors.com.au/prestigious-new-installation-for-dfs-group

SMART COMMERCIAL ROLLER SHUTTERS RESOLVE OPEN AIR SMOKING LAWS FOR CLUB OPERATORS

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has recently completed a large installation of commercial roller shutters at Cardiff RSL in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Large Installation of Commercial Roller Shutters at Cardiff RSL

Project Specifications and Management

Specified by Newcastle firm EJE Architecture and project managed by JMC Building, this project entailed installing ATDC’s electric operated widespan RS6 commercial roller shutters to numerous bar counters and poker machine room areas at the club. The purpose of the roller shutter installation was to weatherproof the outdoor gaming rooms, protect the poker machines, and assist the club in complying with the legislation which prohibits smoking indoors in licensed premises and requires smoking areas to be open to the outdoors to allow the smoke to blow away.

Benefits of RS6 Commercial Roller Shutters

The heavy-duty commercial roller shutters installed by ATDC at Cardiff RSL allow the venue to move its poker machines into the covered outdoor areas, which comply with the above-mentioned smoking legislation, and also secure these areas during closing times against both intruders and the outdoor elements. The RS6 widespan commercial roller shutters have a 77mm aluminium slat profile and can span up to 6000mm in one section without the need for multiple roller shutters with their normally unwieldy and cumbersome removable mullions. The slat profile can be supplied in either a solid or a slotted section.

Operational Features

In this particular installation, the roller shutters were supplied with electric operation by way of keyswitch mechanisms which operated the shutters through a group control mechanism, allowing the roller shutters to operate either individually or as a series operating simultaneously. A backup battery was also installed to ensure that the shutters can still operate in the event of a power failure at the club. Read on for further technical information on the RS6 commercial roller shutter.

Wide Applications of ATDC’s Commercial Roller Shutters

ATDC’s commercial roller shutters have many applications and are suitable for securing shopfronts, shopping centres, warehouses, banks, showrooms, hotels, universities, schools, car parks, and other commercial and government buildings. The shutters are sleek, unobtrusive, and strong and roll up completely out of the way when not in use so as not to obstruct the opening at all. Top pelmet boxes are an optional extra in cases where the drum rolls are installed below ceiling height. Read our article on ATDC’s slimline roller shutters.

Comprehensive Range and Warranty

ATDC manufactures a comprehensive range of commercial roller shutters from roll-formed aluminium profiles to heavy-duty extruded sections depending on the application. Their non-corrosive properties mean that they are extremely low maintenance. All ATDC’s rolling products and overhead doors carry a full and comprehensive warranty which the company has honoured since its inception in 1984. Discover more information on ATDC’s roller shutters.

Australian Domestic Security Grilles Now Exported to New Caledonia

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) is rapidly developing a reputation for its quality exports of security doors, security shutters and folding doors from Australia to The Asia Pacific, Southeast Asia and The Pacific Islands.

Domestic Security Grilles – Quality Exports

Whilst there is a vast predominance of commercial security grilles being exported to countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Fiji (amongst others) there is also a surprising trend of a growing demand for ATDC’s premium grade domestic security grilles for the residential market, particularly more recently in The Pacific Island nation of New Caledonia and its capital Noumea where there is a considerable level of break and entry into residential properties on the island.

High Quality and Cost Effective

ATDC’s focus is on producing both high quality and cost effective and competitive domestic security grilles which retract sideways completely out of the way when not in use and are easily concealed behind curtains or blinds. When locked and closed they create  a formidable deterrent with their triple contact locking mechanisms, full metal frames, heavy duty mesh infills and either stainless steel, brass or aluminium rivets which are used in a non-pivoting function to increase the strength and useful life of the security grilles. The locked and closed security grilles form an open grille which allows sunlight and ventilation to filter through keeping your home light and breezy in the hot summer months, also featuring an optional flyscreen to keep out those pesky insects and mosquitoes in the more humid climates. Further information is available in our blog article on the insect roll-way spring-loaded insect screens which are adapted to these security grilles.

Higher Level Security

ATDC’s domestic security grilles are ideal for securing wide span openings such as sliding glass bi-fold doors, patio doors, French doors and carports as well as also securing narrower passageways, alcoves, front doors and windows. Track arrangements are optional but recommended in areas where a higher level security is required. It’s important to note that floor tracks are able to be installed in ways that do not present a trip hazard to the homeowner (For instance recessing the bottom track or installing it alongside a window or door sill). For further applications for ATDC’s domestic security grilles read our article on gates for residential applications.

Fabrication Options

The domestic security grilles are fabricated in either a toughened galvanized steel or marine grade anodised aluminium and powdercoated in a high quality ultra violet resistant black satin or pearl white finish whilst other powdercoated options are available on request to match almost any colour scheme. Further information is available on ATDC’s full range of domestic security grilles.

ATDC Installs Commercial Security Plantation Shutters at Camilla Franks Store

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has installed its premium grade commercial Security 365 security plantation shutters at Camilla Franks’ boutique store at Sydney’s, Bondi Beach.

Camilla Franks is one of Australia’s premier fashion labels and their products are in very high demand making them a primary target for criminals who have frequently attempted to break in to the clothing group’s multiple stores on numerous occasions.

Security Plantation Shutters – Sleek and Stylish

ATDC’s sleek and stylish security plantation shutters were seen as an ideal fit for the clothing group since they provided both a security rated solution whilst not detracting from the overall feel and look of these traditionally themed retail premises. A high quality satin white powdercoat finish was applied to the shutters to complement Camilla’s corporate colours. The security shutters were installed across the shopfront to protect their high value merchandise and they were also installed to a dedicated room to provide privacy for VIP clients and to conduct private showings. ATDC were required to design and install some elaborate structural frames to support the security shutters including special purpose welded posts and steel support beams. Both hinged and bi-folding shutters were installed.

Strong and Secure

The strength of ATDC’s security plantation shutters are provided by its 3-way locking mechanism, full extruded heavy duty frame, and the reinforced aircraft grade aluminium louvres. All combined with the timeless style of traditional looking plantation shutters. Further information is available on ATDC’s security rated plantation shutters including features and images.

Commercial Grade for Durability

Further benefits provided by these commercial grade security plantation shutters include their durability, longevity and their ability to withstand the highly corrosive environment (in this case installed across the road from the beach) of Bondi with its extremely high saline content level and damaging weathering effects-the shutters will not warp, crack, fade or tarnish, characteristics further enhanced by the ultra violet inhibitors present in the high quality powdercoat finish. For further information on the durability of the product read our article on Plantation Shutters Built for Durability.

Residential and Commercial Options

ATDC’s security plantation shutters are suitable for both commercial and residential applications and can be installed in fixed, hinged, sliding or multi fold track configurations depending on each application and the requirements of the customer. They can be installed to cover doors, windows, patio enclosures and more. In residential applications a flyscreen feature is an added option particularly in humid climates where insects are a problem. And they can be installed in a way which not only provides the homeowner with privacy but also preserves any views by folding completely out of sight. For further information on how ATDC’s security plantation shutters can preserve your views read our article Security Shutters in Apartment Complex in Bondi Beach.

ATDC Installs Commercial Security Grilles for North Sydney Railway Station

The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has recently completed an installation of its premium grade commercial security grilles for North Sydney Railway Station.

Commercial Security Grilles – Premium Grade

Installed at the interchange entry leading from the railway station through to Greenwood Plaza Shopping Centre, ATDC’s commercial security grille was installed to structural supports provided by Simco, the project managers for this job.

How it Works

The 6000mm wide grille was designed to retract back to a compact storage area of only 15% of the total area secured so as to be almost invisible during trading hours. Having a recessed floor track, the commercial security grille is no impediment to the free flow of foot traffic at the railway interchange which is extremely heavy, particularly during peak times.

A removable floor cover plate is in place during opening hours to create a seamless effect to the finished floor. The works for Simco were all carried out by ATDC late at night so as not to interfere with the running of Sydney’s trains.

For other instances of ATDC’s commercial security grilles promoting the free flow of pedestrian foot traffic at public thoroughfares see an article about our security gates being supplied for the Townsville Rail.

Unique Locking Arrangement – BCA Compliance

A unique magnetic locking arrangement was installed on the commercial security grille on this project in order to comply with the BCA (Building Code of Australia). The magnetic lock is generally wired to the building’s fire indicator panel and is designed to automatically unlock and release in the event of fire.

In effect this arrangement creates a keyless egress system for emergency exit. ATDC does have other alternative locking methods for complying with the BCA, the type used depending on the nature and suitability of the particular project at hand.

For ATDC’s locking compliance with the BCA refer to information on our Security Shutters S06.

Securing Railway Stations Across Australia

ATDC’s commercial security grilles are particularly appealing to Australian railway stations due to their heritage design and for this reason they are used quite frequently for securing railway stations across the country.

Queensland Rail, WA Rail, Vic Rail, Metrail and Sydney’s Light Rail and NSW State Rail are all frequent customers. The heritage design has its origin in the scissor doors that appeared in many elevators and lifts in years gone by.

For further information on the widespread use of ATDC’s commercial security grilles to railway stations see the article on our security door project for Sydney Light Rail.
