Does ATDC Provide Higher Level Security?

ATDC’s domestic security grilles are ideal for securing wide span openings such as sliding glass bi-fold doors, patio doors, French doors and carports as well as also securing narrower passageways, alcoves, front doors and windows.

Track arrangements are optional but recommended in areas where a higher level security is required. It’s important to note that floor tracks are able to be installed in ways that do not present a trip hazard to the homeowner (For instance recessing the bottom track or installing it alongside a window or door sill).

What are the Fabrication Options?

The domestic security grilles are fabricated in either a toughened galvanized steel or marine grade anodised aluminium and powdercoated in a high quality ultra violet resistant black satin or pearl white finish whilst other powdercoated options are available on request to match almost any colour scheme. The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has installed its premium grade commercial Security 365 security plantation shutters at Camilla Franks’ boutique store at Sydney’s, Bondi Beach.

Camilla Franks is one of Australia’s premier fashion labels and their products are in very high demand making them a primary target for criminals who have frequently attempted to break in to the clothing group’s multiple stores on numerous occasions.

Security Plantation Shutters – Sleek and Stylish

ATDC’s sleek and stylish security plantation shutters were seen as an ideal fit for the clothing group since they provided both a security rated solution whilst not detracting from the overall feel and look of these traditionally themed retail premises. A high quality satin white powdercoat finish was applied to the shutters to complement Camilla’s corporate colours. The security shutters were installed across the shopfront to protect their high value merchandise and they were also installed to a dedicated room to provide privacy for VIP clients and to conduct private showings. ATDC were required to design and install some elaborate structural frames to support the security shutters including special purpose welded posts and steel support beams. Both hinged and bi-folding shutters were installed.

The strength of ATDC’s security plantation shutters are provided by its 3-way locking mechanism, full extruded heavy duty frame, and the reinforced aircraft grade aluminium louvres. Further benefits provided by these commercial grade security plantation shutters include their durability, longevity and their ability to withstand the highly corrosive environment (in this case installed across the road from the beach) of Bondi with its extremely high saline content level and damaging weathering effects-the shutters will not warp, crack, fade or tarnish, characteristics further enhanced by the ultra violet inhibitors present in the high quality powdercoat finish. The Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) has recently completed an installation of its premium grade commercial security grilles for North Sydney Railway Station.

Commercial Security Grilles – Premium Grade

Installed at the interchange entry leading from the railway station through to Greenwood Plaza Shopping Centre, ATDC’s commercial security grille was installed to structural supports provided by Simco, the project managers for this job.

 

How it Works

The 6000mm wide grille was designed to retract back to a compact storage area of only 15% of the total area secured so as to be almost invisible during trading hours. Having a recessed floor track, the commercial security grille is no impediment to the free flow of foot traffic at the railway interchange which is extremely heavy, particularly during peak times.

A removable floor cover plate is in place during opening hours to create a seamless effect to the finished floor. The works for Simco were all carried out by ATDC late at night so as not to interfere with the running of Sydney’s trains.

Unique Locking Arrangement – BCA Compliance

A unique magnetic locking arrangement was installed on the commercial security grille on this project in order to comply with the BCA (Building Code of Australia). The magnetic lock is generally wired to the building’s fire indicator panel and is designed to automatically unlock and release in the event of fire.

In effect this arrangement creates a keyless egress system for emergency exit. ATDC does have other alternative locking methods for complying with the BCA, the type used depending on the nature and suitability of the particular project at hand.

Concertina Security Doors

Specified by well-known Melbourne based retail and commercial design specialist ACRD, ATDC’s S07-2 side- by- side stacking concertina security doors are being widely used as they are the most space efficient commercial door closures currently available on the market.

 

How Do They Work?

The doors are configured on a parallel set of tandem top tracks; these concertina security doors fold back to only 8 per cent of the total opening width being secured. They are complemented by a series of secure full height up/down locking mechanisms to alleviate the need for any floor tracks, creating a seamless effect with a completely clear and open shopfront without any obstructions during trading hours.

The Australian Standard compliant security door was installed at the main entry to the store on behalf of Aspect Design, the project manager and builder on the project, in an effort to deter break and enters to the premises.

Security Door Features

The S06 security door was selected for numerous reasons including the fact that when not in use during trading hours it retracts sideways and folds completely out of the way so as not to impede customer access and further so as not to obstruct visibility of merchandise. At night however, when the store is closed, the security door provides an excellent deterrent.

 

How Does it Work?

This Australian Standard compliant security door has numerous security features including a 5 pin cylinder, triple contact tamper resistant lock with anti-jemmy protection, and a full heavy duty frame. As such the S06 security door provides Woolworths and many other businesses in Brisbane with the level of protection that many owners demand and many insurance companies now require from their clients.

Suspended with industrial grade top roller bearings from a heavy duty extruded aluminium top track, the curtain’s extruded aluminium sections fold effortlessly through a system of low friction continuous interlocking hinges resulting in an exceptional user friendly finished product which is low maintenance and easy to operate. Luke Plancke, the retail manager, supplier relations at Endeavour Petroleum, said the group had ordered the security door following two previous break-ins over a 6 week period which caused the Melbourne company major financial losses as well as serious disruption to their business trade.

In each case the intruders entered the premises by breaking in through the front door, in one case by reversing their vehicle through the doorway. This follows a spate of similar break-ins to commercial premises in the Melbourne metropolitan area and.

ATDC Working With DFS

Working closely with leading international luxury retailer DFS GROUP and specifying architect PMDL out of Hong Kong, ATDC supplied its cutting edge retractable security gates to secure the luxury store’s valuable merchandise.

ATDC also collaborated on this project with Structural Engineer, Structon Group and fitout specialist, Fixx Systems (both companies based in Vietnam) to produce a finished product that surpassed the customer’s expectations.

 

The Finished Product

PMDL’s Hong Kong office approached ATDC primarily because ATDC possesses the most space efficient retail closure on the market today, namely its S07-2™ side -by -side parallel top tracking retractable security gate configuration.

The very wide and curved shopfront opening (nearly 45 metres) required a space efficient solution which complemented the customer’s high profile luxury image. ATDC provided its S08™ curved retractable security gate in a dual S07-2™ top track configuration security door and thereby achieved a minimal storage requirement for the doors during trading hours.

Numerous kiosk locations within the store itself also required security however provided a challenge since these particular locations have extremely high ceilings and no top structural bulkheads-in these locations ATDC supplied its S04-1™ trackless, mobile, retractable security gates which provide DFS Group with the required lock up of their valuable merchandise.
