Australian Trellis Door Co (ATDC™) recently completed the installation of a heavy-duty concertina door at The University of Western Australia (UWA) in Perth. The installation was designed to secure the university canteen, separating it from the adjacent library for after-hours use by students. This innovative solution ensures that students can access the canteen while the library remains securely closed, providing convenience and security in a single, elegant design.
Spanning Large Areas with Ease
The UWA project presented the challenge of securing very large openings, with spans measuring 9700mm and 6500mm wide. ATDC met this challenge by installing its S06 heavy-duty concertina door, a robust and versatile security solution that is well-suited for large spaces. The door’s scissor-action cross-linkages allow for maximum ventilation, ensuring that the canteen remains well-ventilated even when the door is closed. This feature is particularly important in environments where air circulation is crucial for comfort and safety.
Seamless Lock-Up and Minimal Storage
One of the key features of ATDC’s concertina door is its seamless lock-up system. The door is suspended from a heavy-duty top track, which is supported by a structural overhead beam, eliminating the need for a floor track or removable mullions. This design not only ensures a secure lock-up but also allows the door to concertina sideways into a minimal storage compaction size, making it virtually invisible when not in use. The absence of a floor track also means there are no trip hazards, further enhancing the safety and usability of the space.
The installation at UWA was managed by Subiaco-based builder Fairweather & Sons, who ensured that the project was completed to the highest standards.
ATDC’s concertina door is also available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and in all capital cities and regional centres across Australia.
